Implementation of the opioid substitution therapy in prisons

March 2, 2016 - The meeting of all stakeholders on the implementation of the opioid substitution therapy program in prisons was held at the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

According to the National Programme on Combating HIV / AIDS in the 2014-2018 years Ukraine has a commitment to the implementation of OST in prison.Within the framework of implementation of the said NGO «Ukrainian Institute of Public Health" has developed a draft Decree "On approval of the interaction between health care institutions, National Police, investigation wards,penitentiary facilities and penal inspections to ensure substitution therapy of patients with opioid dependence". 

During the meeting, participants reviewed the current situation regarding the implementation of OST in prisons in Ukraine, the main provisions of the Decree and identified the next steps for finalizing it.
