German Society for International Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH) is a federal institution that supports the German Government in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development and international education work. By working efficiently and in a spirit of partnership, GIZ contributes to the development of society and improvement of people’s lives.
In Ukraine, GIZ acts on behalf of four German ministries, the European Union (EU) and the British Department for International Development (DFID) and has a staff of over 90 employees. The cooperation is focused on sustainable economic development, energy efficiency, as well as prevention of HIV / AIDS. GIZ Programme on HIV / AIDS prevention has been successfully operating in Ukraine since 2007 within the framework of the Intergovernmental Ukraine-Germany Agreement.
Since 2009, GIZ in cooperation with the Ministry of Healthcare of Ukraine has been implementing an all-Ukrainian campaign “Do not give AIDS a chance!”
The purpose of the campaign is to raise the awareness of the general public in Ukraine about HIV / AIDS issues, to promote responsible and safe behaviour, to increase tolerance towards HIV-positive people and to eradicate the stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV.
The target audience of the Campaign includes the general public of Ukraine. Each wave of the Campaign consists of various projects, actions and activities and involves distribution of specially designed information materials.
