According to the MOH decree of 22 November 2013 No. 995/102, the Reference Laboratory for microbiological diagnostics of the State Institution “National F. G. Yanovskyi Institute of Phtisiology and Pulmonology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine” performs the functions of the Central Reference Laboratory for microbiological diagnostics of tuberculosis of the MOH of Ukraine (hereinafter- the CRL).
The CRL provides consultative assistance to laboratories of the 3rd level for diagnostics of tuberculosis in case of problems with identification of the isolates and to patients referred for tuberculosis diagnostics to the Institute clinics from different regions of Ukraine, including the complicated cases of the disease, for determination or specification of their diagnosis. On average, the laboratory performs 150 tests by molecular-genetic methods a month.
Due to effective cooperation of the UCDC and the CRL since 2013, molecular and genetic examination methods have already been introduced in the country, and annual external control of quality of drug-sensitivity test to antituberculosis drugs of the 1st and 2nd lines has been set up.
Within the framework of implementation of the grant provided by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in the area of “Tuberculosis”, reagent kits for GeneXtract for 576 tests, and for GeneXpert MTB/RIF for 750 tests were purchased for the CRL, which provides for its needs by January 2016.
